Pope Visits Auschwitz on 28 May 2006

With great interest the International Auschwitz Committee is looking forward to the visit of Pope Benedict to the former concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau on 28 May 2006:The Pope will also meet a delegation of the IAC including Auschwitz survivors from Israel, France, Poland and Germany. They will be accompanied by young people who have committed themselves to the maintenance of the Auschwitz memorial site. The IAC delegation will be headed by the IAC President Noach Flug from Israel:”The Pope’s sympathy and his interest in our memories are moving us very much. We hope that his visit will give a strong impetus to the worldwide ban on anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia. We know that many young people have been decisively stimulated by their visits to the Auschwitz memorial to commit themselves for tolerance and democracy. The Pope’s visit will also encourage them”, Noach Flug underlined.
