Volkswagen AG presented a T5 Caravelle bus to the International Auschwitz Committee at the Auschwitz Memorial on 16 June 2008. The bus will be used locally, among other things for trips with young people involved in preserving the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and taking part in talks with Auschwitz survivors. The young people include trainees and young managers from Volkswagen. Christoph Heubner, vice-president of the International Auschwitz Committee expressed his thanks and stressed the educational and political importance of the programmes, which Volkswagen and the IAC have been carrying out together for many years and which now include a new group of people from the company in four-day study trips, namely young managers and master craftsmen.

Mr Heubner handed over greetings and words of thanks from IAC president Noach Flug from Jerusalem and then gave the vehicle rights to the Memorial’s deputy director Krystyna Oleksy: "The bus will be of great help in the Museum’s international work. What’s more – and this is especially important to us – it will support the continuous involvement of the young Volkswagen colleagues who help us to preserve this place of remembrance and warning for the world. And we’re really pleased that they are doing this together with young Polish people. We’d like to thank all the colleagues at Volkswagen and especially Dr Neumann and Mr Wehlauer who are representing Volkswagen here today."

Dr Neumann and Mr Wehlauer laid wreaths together with Krystyna Oleksy and Christoph Heubner, as well as a group of trainees and young managers, in honour of the victims of National Socialist persecution.
