The International Auschwitz Committee marked the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

On 9 December 2008 the president of the International Auschwitz Committee Noach Flug marked the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by unveiling a large poster next to the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. After Auschwitz and the barbarity manifested in the Holocaust a deeply distraught world endeavoured to take counteractive measures: the United Nations was re-founded and human rights were again written into the consciousness of people around the world. "We remember the history of human rights, above all to stress the plight of the people in Darfur and other places who are waiting for the world’s attention and the honouring of their human rights," said Mr Flug. The event was covered by television.
