"Holocaust Era Assets Conference"

The “Holocaust Era Assets Conference”, which was prepared by the government of the Czech Republic during its EU Council Presidency, took place in Prague and Theresienstadt from 26 to 30 June 2009.

The conference is seen as the successor to the Washington Conference of 1998 on the same subject. The meeting in Prague was now to discuss the extent to which the Washington demands for the return of Jewish possessions have been fulfilled, and which national and international initiatives are active in educational work and in remembering the Holocaust.

On behalf of the International Auschwitz Committee Professor Felix Kolmer, Prague, President Noach Flug, Henri Goldberg from the Fondation Auschwitz in Brussels and Christoph Heubner were involved in preparing and carrying out the conference.

Christoph Heubner reported on “The actual situation of the Concentration Camp Memorial Sites” giving special emphasis to the dedicated educational involvement of the survivors.

President Noach Flug addressed the conference assembly on Monday 29 June. In his speech he drew particular attention to the current persecution of and discrimination against Roma and Sinti in many European societies.
