October 10th, 2009 "Together we must oppose any attempts to play down fascism"From 10 to 14 October 2009 the members of the International Auschwitz Committee Presidium took part in an international meeting in Moscow dedicated to preparing the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The meeting was initiated by the "International Union of Public Association of Jews – Former Prisioners of Facism" and its President Prof. Yefim G. Gologorskiy, and was supported by the Moscow City Government. In his words of welcome Moscow’s Mayor Juri Luschkow said: "The victory in the Great Patriotic War cost us incredible sacrifices. But it led to the liberation of our country and the countries of Europe enslaved by Hitler. We dedicate our special attention to the liberation of the prisoners in the concentration camps, the Nazi death factories…. We will not forget the liberators of the camps nor the prisoners themselves – both fought against the same hated enemy. The history of World War II must never be revised: together we must oppose any attempts to gloss over or play down fascism or collaboration, or to deny the great contribution made by the soviet people to victory in this war." During the stay in Moscow President Noach Flug emphasized: "In Auschwitz the soldiers of the Red Army represented our only realistic hope of liberation and the chance of eventual survival." In Moscow the members of the presidium also met survivors of the Holocaust and members of the Jewish Community in the newly built synagogue on the Sparrow Hills.
