October 29th, 2009 Seminar in BudapestOn Thursday 29 October 2009, the seminar "Remembrance Pages – Memories of the Holocaust in literature" will take place at the Budapest Holocaust Memorial Center. The seminar has been organized in collaboration with the International Auschwitz Committee and the German Resistance Memorial Center. “Remembrance Pages” aims to raise awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust and the sufferings of its victims conveyed through a medium that goes beyond the simple presentation of historical facts. Personal and direct access to the events of 1939 –1945, which are gradually fading into an abstract area of history for the present generation, is of crucial importance. Here literature offers a possibility to convey emotions, identify with individuals and pause for reflection. “Remembrance Pages” focuses on enabling the audience to gain personal access to the victims and their fates through artistic-literary insights. One of the seminar’s key areas is the experiences and perspectives of women in Holocaust memoires. Among others the Hungarian Auschwitz survivor Eva Fahidi, who is also involved in the International Auschwitz Committee, will be reading from her memoires. In addition to this there will be a presentation of the anthology “Salziger Kaffee – unerzählte Frauengeschichten” (Salty Coffee – Untold Women’s Stories).
