Commenting on the state premier elections in Thuringia, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee stated in Berlin:
"In Thuringia Herr Höcke is creating the government. The election of the premier with the votes of the AfD breaches a dam and breaks a taboo in Germany. The fact that this right-wing extremist Höcke-AfD managed so easily to exploit the democratic parties’ inability to reach agreement is a political disaster with far-reaching consequences. The often heard appeals to draw a clear line away from the AfD are becoming increasingly unconvincing. For Holocaust survivors, this represents a fatal signal from Germany in the struggle against Neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists in Europe."
