Professor Felix Kolmer from Prague, Holocaust survivor and Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, has been awarded the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria by the Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.

The Austrian Ambassador Bettina Kirnbauer presented the award to the 99-year-old physicist during a ceremony at the Hagibor retirement home of the Jewish Community in Prague. Israel’s Ambassador to Prague, Daniel Meron, was also present at the ceremony.

In Vienna, Hannah M. Lessing, Vice President of the IAC and Secretary General of the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism said: “It is an honour for me to be able to work together with Felix Kolmer in the International Auschwitz Committee. Over very many years he has inspired and taught us how much we can achieve – against all odds – when we have the courage to act. I see him as a role model, whenever it is necessary to stand up against the storms of life and to never let anyone rob you of your determination.”
