The occasion is the fifth anniversary of the murder of the Kassel District President Dr. Walter Lübcke, who was literally executed in June 2019 in his home town near Kassel by well-known right-wing extremists because of his political views. At the time, the murder of the Kassel government president appeared to be the culmination of a hate campaign that had been deliberately stirred up and staged by right-wing extremists, neo-Nazis and representatives of the AfD in view of our country's willingness to help refugees.

Since the murder of #WalterLübcke 5 years ago, we have had to learn that violence against politicians in the public sphere is on the rise and goes hand in hand with the radicalization and neglect of language. The number of sympathizers and potential voters of a right-wing extremist party continues to rise, avowed and well-known Nazis are standing in district council elections and, despite their admiration of Hitler and their contempt for Europe and democracy, are allowed to stand as election candidates despite the usual guidelines. The Republic is recklessly surrendering itself on the ground and, behind its perforated firewall for old and new Nazis, has long since ceased to be taken seriously as truly defensive.we want to draw attention to all this with our commemorative action today and at the same time, in the days of the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, set a sign of remembrance in the controversial public discourse and in public space.

Trainees from Volkswagen AG in Braunschweig and Salzgitter took part in the International Auschwitz Committee's commemorative action on their way to a twelve-day memorial project organized by the International Auschwitz Committee at the Auschwitz Memorial.

Our action calls on cities, municipalities, schools and institutions to initiate similar, permanent actions and not to leave the public space to the right-wing extremist haters and to shape it democratically: In the face of all old and new Nazis! Every day and again and again! We are more! And #neveragain is now! Already long ago!
