Archeologia presented by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum


In the presence of Ms Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO and Mr Piotr Cywinski, Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Poland).
 
The exhibition presents a selection of the 16,000 personal items belonging to mostly Jewish victims, discovered in 1967 during archaeological works carried out around the gas chambers and crematorium III of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. This exceptional collection features the last remaining personal objects of the victims before their assassination, which were lost for half a century and recently rediscovered stored in 48 cardboard boxes at the Polish Academy of Sciences.

This exhibition marks the first display outside the Museum of this unique and precious collection of lost artefacts.

The Exhibition will be presented from 26 January to 10 February 2017. Open access from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. weekdays, upon presentation of ID.
