Deadly attack in Halle: Memories of the darkest and most murderous times of anti-Semitism in Germany
Speaking in Berlin about the attack in Halle, Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said:
“The fact that on the holiest day of the year in the Jewish faith an attack on Jewish people can take place in Germany is deeply painful for Holocaust survivors. It reminds them of the darkest and most murderous times of anti-Semitism in Germany.
After Chemnitz and the murder of Walter Lübke, this attack represents a further escalation of right-wing terror in Germany. We expect immediate measures from a steadfast state which, above all, needs to focus on people in the right-wing scene equipping themselves with weapons.”
