Holocaust survivors around the world are following Pope Francis’ journey to Hungary and Slovakia with great interest and respect. During his travels Pope Francis will again be meeting with Holocaust survivors and Roma families. Commenting in Berlin Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, said:
"Especially in times of growing anti-Semitic violence and hatred and the marginalization of Roma families in Europe, the Pope’s attention and clear position in support of Holocaust survivors is sending out an encouraging signal. The survivors are moved by his great respect for their memories and their murdered relatives, and his solid stance is giving them strength – not only in Hungary and Slovakia – in their unbending opposition to the racist and populist incitement in politics and society."
