Following the first projections for the state election in Brandenburg, Christoph Heubner, the Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, stated during a visit to the Auschwitz Memorial:

"The state election in Brandenburg has left survivors of the German concentration and extermination camps filled with deep concern. The fact that the AfD has now also reached almost 30% in Brandenburg is a bitter reality for them. They have witnessed how the AfD blatantly used Nazi propaganda clichés in its election campaign and repeatedly demonized other people through incitement and threats, and this is casting a dark shadow on their perception of Germany. They are all the more grateful to all the voters who have strengthened the democratic parties in this situation. In Brandenburg, all democratic parties now face the joint task of exposing the true nature of the AfD's agitation and winning back citizens for democracy."
