In the tradition of our European civilization - Prometheus was the first to sacrifice himself for the sake of humanity. The recent one is Alexei Navalny.

I’d like to recall here the words of my late friend, one of the commanders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943), Marek Edelman: 

‘The most important thing is life! And then - when you are alive, the most important thing is freedom. And then, very often, in order to protect freedom - you have to sacrifice your life’.
