Doctor Christina Hänel from Giessen defended herself today in Hamburg’s Regional Court with an action for an injunction against the owners of the website Babycaust. The website compared abortions with the Holocaust saying they open the gate to Auschwitz. In her decision today the judge in Hamburg declared such comparisons illegal and sentenced the website owner to pay damages.

Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee said:

“For Auschwitz survivors this is an important and exemplary decision that will have a great signal effect and will also benefit social harmony. For far too long, fanatical opponents of abortion have contributed towards hatred in our society with their odious messages and comparisons that insult not only women but also survivors of the Holocaust. We are very grateful to the judge in Hamburg for drawing a decisive line for these people to respect.”
