In a statement about President Biden’s recognition of the Armenian genocide, Christoph Heubner, the Executive President of the International Auschwitz Committee said in Berlin:
"In the knowledge of their own fatal experiences, the survivors of the Holocaust have felt a deep empathy with the Armenian people for very many years. The Turkish government still insists on playing down, or shrouding in silence, the genocide committed by Turks against the Armenian people. The Holocaust survivors see the recognition and conscious naming of the genocide by America’s President Biden as an important gesture and a clear political signal to the Turkish government to finally face up to the truth and historical responsibility."
